Participatory decision-making among school teachers: Examining the predictive role of organizational trust

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the organizational trust as a predictor of participatory decision-making among elementary school teachers in Gilan-e Gharb County. Methods: The research method is descriptive-correlational. Statistical population included all school teachers in Gilan-e Gharb to the size of 466 person, out of whom 215 person with using Stratified random sampling were selected as the sample population. To collect Research data, two standard questionnaires Participatory Decision Making, Organizational Trust were used. The face and content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed using experts' opinions, and the reliability of the questionnaire was also confirmed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. After collecting the research data, Data were analyzed by SPSS 22 software, using descriptive statistics methods and inferential analysis tests. Findings: The research findings show that there is a positive and significant correlation between organizational trust and its components with teacher participation in decision-making. The research findings also show that all three components of organizational trust, namely Cognition-based Trust, t Affect-based Trust and Disposition to Trust, have the ability to predict teachers' participation in decision-making. Conclusion: In summary, according to the research findings, it can be said that Organizational trust causes teachers in the school to follow the rules set in the school, create a friendly educational atmosphere, be confident in fair treatment methods, and implement a participatory decision-making style that guarantees success in the educational system.
